Westward moving trough of low pressure that usually contains cloudiness and thunderstorms

Tropical Disturbance

An area of clouds and thunderstorms that maintains its identity for 24 hours

Tropical Depression

An organized system of clouds and thunderstorms with a well defined circulation and a constant surface wind speed of 38 mph or less

Hurricane

An intense tropical weather system with a pronounced circulation and a calm center (eye) with surface winds of 74 mph or more

Tropical Storm Watch

An announcement meaning tropical storm conditions (winds 39-73 mph) are possible in the watch area within 24-36 hours

Hurricane Watch

Issued when hurricane conditions (sustained surface winds of at least 74 mph) are possible within 24 to 36 hours

Hurricane Warning

Means hurricane conditions are expected in the warning area in less than 24 hours
